I am a modern traditionalist quilter living and working in Davis, CA.
As a child growing up in Indiana my mom created a beautiful and welcoming home for us by sewing napkins, table coverings and cushions. She also hung a huge Lone Star quilt on our living room wall. Looking back, I now realize how these thoughtful touches have influenced me. Much later in life, when I had a family of my own, I learned to sew so that I could make napkins, table runners and pillows to help make our home cozier. This led to me becoming curious about how quilts are made. As I learned, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the process of making quilts. With the loving support of my husband Herman I have been able to begin working full time on creating quilts and sharing them with others. This year I began selling them at the Davis Farmer’s Market. I enjoy using Instagram to share photos of everything I make and my favorite quilt model is Winston, the horse I ride, love, and help take care of. The views from his home at a barn in West Davis, as well as the gorgeous landscapes that my husband and I encounter during our hiking and travels in Northern CA all show up in various ways in my quilts.
I piece all of my quilts so that I can put them in the washer and dryer which develops the beautiful crinkles that create depth and texture. I use a sewing machine, cotton batting, cotton thread, and cotton and linen fabric.
